Presse Release, 04/24/2010Mars mission on foot or on wheelsIBA adventure tours through a fascinating new post-mining landscape in Lusatia +++ Tours also available for visitors with disabilities and for professionals
The best way to understand the IBA and to appreciate the large-scale redevelopment of the landscape in Lusatia is to actually come on a personal voyage of discovery. The IBA Terraces in Großräschen are on the edge of the former Meuro open-cast mine, which is being flooded to form Lake Ilse, and are the ideal starting point for adventure tours. You might like to take a "Jeep Safari" through the open-cast mine, stopping for a snack amidst bizarre canyons, or a "Trip to Mars" - both tours offer visitors a close-up view of the scale of the landscape transformation and its many facets. The Internationale Bauausstellung offers a journey through time to rediscover old and new cultivated landscapes.
There is wide range of attractions, with 12 different tours offering the opportunity to visit the working open-cast mine and marvel at the huge mining machinery, to walk on the bed of a future lake, to ride on a raft in a half-flooded lake, to go in search of former industrial giants or
historic workers' settlements, and to admire modern floating architecture. Or you might prefer to search for clues to the history of the charming heritage landscape of Pritzen, the Fürstlich Drehna landscaped park or the Raddusch Slavic Fort. Not least, there is a chance to explore German-Polish border landscapes on the tour "From Pückler Park to Geopark".
The tours range from guided walks, jeep tours in the open-cast mine and rafting on the new lakes right through to themed cycle and bus tours about the landscape transformation and the IBA projects. The tours are run at fixed dates but individual arrangements can also be made. Group tours can be run by request and tours can be run in English, Polish or Czech on request. Some tours are not entirely suitable for people with disabilities, therefore three tours are offered specifically for people with restricted mobility. These are "Unrestricted access to new shores", a tour around the IBA Terraces, and two further tours which go to the Lusatian Lakeland and the working open-cast mine. A two-day tour for professionals provides particularly detailed insight into the work of the IBA and the IBA projects and is also accompanied by project managers.
